Advance Guard

Considering the definition of Art Brut and Informel, would Lowbrow be considered the same movement as an extension or is Lowbrow solely American?

According to Michele Dantini in his book, Modern and Contemporary Art, the movement pushed art to "enter the fields of irreverence and impudent nonconventionality, to explore such territories as the "low", the "obscure", the "repugnant", the "failed" and excrement. And, on the other hand, to celebrate desire." He goes on to say that works created were like "moments of private reflection" to be seen by the viewer. The subject matter dealt with the difficulties of European living post- WW II.
