On to lighter fare. Here's a book from my childhood that we recently acquired to read to our kids: The Ice Cream Cone Coot and Other Rare Birds. It was published in 1971, authored by Arnold Lobel. Great illustrations and fun rhymes for the late-elementary-school set to read.
