When I was a child there was a painting in my parent’s bedroom that I would look at for what seemed like hours on end. Framed in a brown, perhaps faux wood rectangle, it was a garden scene with a lake that had swans gliding idly on its smooth surface. Was it the colors or the content that intrigued me? I think there were people in the painting, but it was the animals that I can remember best.
